Pondicherry University PG Admission : MA, M.Sc., M.Com, M.Ed., LLM, M.P.Ed.


The university offers PG courses in MA, M.Sc., M.Com., M.Ed., LLM, M.P.Ed., MPA, ML.I.Sc. and MSW. For PG courses, candidate must have passed Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks in relevant discipline from recognized university.
Selection to all the courses is done on the basis of Entrance Examination conducted by the university. For LLM, candidate also has to appear for GD/PI. For M.P.Ed., candidates also have to appear for Physical Fitness Test. For M.Sc. in Biotechnology, candidates are selected on the basis of JNU CEEB.

Key Points about Entrance Examination:

For admission to PG courses, an Online Entrance Examination will be conducted and candidates will be evaluated on the basis of marks secured.

The paper will consist of 100 Multiple Choice questions to be answered within a time duration of 120 minutes. 4 marks will be allotted for every correct answer while 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Pondicherry University Ph.D Admission
The university offers Ph.D. in various disciplines. The course is offered in Full-Time as well as Part-Time (External /Internal) mode.
He/she must have obtained minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying exams Eligibility Criteria:
Candidate must have passed Master’s degree in relevant discipline from recognized university with minimum aggregate of 55% marks.

Requirement of Experience:

Ph.D. (Part Time) – Internal:
Candidates working in College/ University departments and such other institutions recognized by Pondicherry University with at least two years of continuous teaching experience at degree and/ or post-graduate level in the subject concerned. Candidates teaching in Recognized Schools at the High School level/ Polytechnic Colleges situated within the jurisdiction of Pondicherry University and have at least 5 years of continuous teaching experience in the subject concerned. Non-teaching staff employed in a time scale of pay in this University and other affiliated research institutions. Ph.D. (Part Time) – External:
Permanent academic staff of colleges/ universities/ other educational institutions of higher learning/ Research & Development Laboratories and Organizations with at least three years of continuous teaching/ research experience. Employees with a minimum of ten years of experience in Government, Local Bodies, recognized Institutes, PSUs, NGOs. Technocrats, Scientists, Social Scientists & Scholars and Administrators with at least 10 years of experience in India or abroad

Selection is done on the basis of Entrance Examination (70%) followed by Academic Record & Personal Interview (30%) conducted by the university. All the part-time External as well Internal candidates should submit a clear written proposal at the time of interview.



Key Note: Candidates who have qualified National Eligibility Test/JRF/UGC/CSIR or UGC Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship for SC/ST or DBT-INSPIRE are exempted from entrance examination.

Pondicherry University Distance Education Admission

In addition to various regular PG/ PG Diploma/ Ph.D programmes, the university also offers several courses through distance learning mode via Directorate of Distance Education, PU.

Minimum eligibility for all the courses in DDE is a candidate must pass Bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) from a recognized university. Selection is done on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination.

The university also conducts Spot Admission on a provisional basis in DDE, PU. Candidates can approach the Principal or his representative at the Admission Centre with Fee Payment receipt, original and self-attested Xerox documents.

Candidates seeking admission to courses offered by Pondicherry University can register online through the official website and submit the required application form along with the processing fee. The fees can be submitted through online or offline mode.

How to Apply:
Visit the official website of the university and register as a new user.
Login with username and password and fill the form carefully.
Pay the application fees either through online or offline mode.
In case of online payment, candidate can pay via Credit card / Debit card / Net Banking. A confirmation mail will be sent to registered E-mail Id and SMS.
In case of offline payment, select Challan and follow the therein given instructions.

Note: PwD candidates need not to pay the application fees.

Pondicherry University NRI & Overseas Candidates Admission Self-supporting foreign candidates who wish to study in this university may apply online through the official website for which the application fees is US$ 100. Foreign candidates are required to appear for written test and/or viva-voce in case they are already in India at the time of written examination. Applicants who are abroad at the time of filling application will be exempted from the entrance examination. Candidates who have passed University degrees outside India should enclose copies of relevant documents in English version duly attested with the application form.

For Ph.D. Admission: Applicant must have a valid research visa and submit the application along with details of proposed research. Admission is subject to the recommendation of Admission Committee of the concerned department and availability of supervisors in the proposed area of research in the department. Candidates who are selected under International Cultural/ Educational Exchange schemes of Government of India /UN Bodies are exempted from admission test.
